Chicago startup launching this Christmas, aims to become the “Amazon of made-to-measure” for women

(CHICAGO, IL) November 12, 2018 – Chicago fashion startup Balodana was popularly voted the number one business idea pitch at the recent FUNDConference in Chicago, competing against 100 companies from across the US who presented to a large audience of investors and attendees.

Balodana, the first e-commerce marketplace exclusively focused on women’s made-to-measure clothing, won accolades for its pitch and the originality of their idea to leverage “e-spoke” to solve women’s inability to find clothing that fits. In Balodana’s research, nearly half of women say they experience difficulty finding clothing that fits, and the number rises to 75% in women over 35.

Sales of bespoke and tailor-made clothing have doubled over the past five years, according to a recent statement by NPD Group research, growing to approximately 1% of the $215B U.S. apparel market. While there are made-to-measure brands that offer their own designs and fulfillment via the internet, particularly for men’s tailored clothing, there is currently no dedicated marketplace that aggregates a broad selection of styles — and specializes only in women’s fashions.
