Anastasia is an American designer who creates a heritage level Collection one year at a time. Chicago-based fashion designer Anastasia Chatzka was born and raised in Detroit. Those early years spent exploring the expansive Detroit music and art scene helped shape the womenswear designer she is today. Rich colors, prints, and textures are woven into the DNA that is recognizably an Anastasia garment. She is most known for her fun, flirty dresses and separates.
After college and honing her skills with designers such as Betsey Johnson & Anna Sui Anastasia decided that it was time to start her own clothing line. The Anastasia brand consists of fun, feminine, and cutting edge ready-to-wear and custom-made designs. Anastasia is truly a lifestyle brand; her collections encompass everything from ball gowns to intimates.
How did Anastasia get into fashion? It was The Beatles! When Anastasia was very young, she wanted a pair of bell-bottoms but there was nowhere to find bell-bottoms in the ‘90s. Her mother took her to the fabric store, showed her how to set up a sewing machine, and instructed her to make her own pair. She was on her way to discovering the art of fashion!
Anastasia loves music! If she hadn’t become a designer, she would’ve wanted to be a leading rock n’ roll star. The support of local Detroit music venues actually helped give Anastasia her fashion retail experience. Back in those early days, she’d create garments all week, then set up racks at punk rock shows over the weekend and sell to the concertgoers. A few of her musical muses are Kim Gordon, Kathleen Hanna, and Courtney Love.
A primary focus of the Anastasia Chatzka is domestic manufacturing—Made in America. The Collections are currently produced in Chicago by artisans with more than 30 years of cutting and sewing experience. The Anastasia Collections are designed and constructed to endure season after season of wear and enjoyment. She even designs her own fabrics, which are also made in America.
